Mark Wihlidal is Hoping Love Can Come My Way

Although it took some time to get there, Mark Wihlidal is now fully committed to leaving his mark on the music scene. We caught up with him at his home in Southern Ontario to discuss his newfound passion for songwriting and recording: “I’ve been writing for about 6 years, and I’m really happy and proud of our latest song, Hoping Love Will Come My Way, recorded at Artists Development Studio in Clarington, Ontario, with our talented friend Alex Paris at the helm.”

Mark is a fearless artist who took a chance on his musical craft later in life. His recent singles have garnered attention, thanks to his hands-on approach and collaboration with knowledgeable professionals like Eric Alper and Sandy Graham. Mark understands the competitiveness of the music business and knows the hard work is just as important as the inspiration needed to succeed. “I spend a regular 8-hour workday seeking out global radio stations and booking my new band, Mark Wihlidal and Fool’s Gold. So far, it’s paying off. We’re getting significant airplay, and the band is getting work.”

Mark’s fluid sonic style is reflected in his recording process, which emphasizes trust among his bandmates. “When I create a song, I always encourage my bandmates to create their own parts. Everyone is involved in the creative process. I believe it makes the songs sound better.” “Hoping Love Can Come My Way was recorded with his new band, which has only been together for six months but already shares a strong connection. The track features Paul Lanthier on drums, Gord Wallace on bass guitar, and Dave McCarthy on guitar.

Mark shares the story behind “Hoping Love Can Come My Way”: “Like most of my songs, this one is based on a life experience. It’s something a lot of folks will relate to, and I’m really happy with the final product. I hope it speaks to many people.”

Hoping Love Can Come My Way
First time I saw her, I looked in her eyes
I knew it was love, but she didn’t realize
I wanted to meet her, so bad that day
See if love would come my way

Mark adds, “I think this song’s story is something most of us have experienced. The rest of the song is about hoping she feels the same way and that her love can come my way. I wrote the chords and lyrics, but I always let my guys add their own creativity to their parts. It becomes a team effort. When you let people create, it adds another dimension, and they also feel part of the song.”

Lyrics:
I keep trying, but she slips away
Come on girl, come my way
I’ll show you love, like never before
I’ll show you love, forevermore
Oh please
(Repeat)

The closing lyrics reflect a universal longing, something we all feel at different points in life:

I’ve needed you all my life
So come on girl, be by my side
I haven’t had love for some time
Show me girl, and I’ll be fine

Mark Wihlidal continues to pursue his dream of connecting with audiences from all walks of life through the power of music.
